DRDO

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out two successful tests of the latest variant of the BrahMos missile- from the land platform and the other from the air.

About the missile

1. It is a cruise missile that can be guided towards a pre-determined land or sea-based target.

2. BrahMos is developed through a collaboration between India and Russia. It is named after the rivers Brahmaputra and Moskva.

3. This is classified as a supersonic cruise missile. It means it has the capability to attain speeds 2.8 times that of sound (Mach 2.8).

4. The first version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was inducted into the Indian Navy in 2005.

Latest variants

1. Tests are conducted periodically to continuously upgrade and update the missiles with new hardware and software.

2. Capability of the latest variants has been tested based on various parameters under different atmospheric conditions.

3. Additional hardware and software systems have been tested based on the inputs from the user against more complex targets.

4. The latest version under development is aimed at attaining speeds greater than Mach 5. These are called hypersonic cruise missiles.

5. The latest BrahMos Air-Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) has been significant addition in IAF’s air combat capability from stand-off ranges.

6. Stand-off range missiles are ones that are launched at a distance sufficient to allow an attacking party to evade defensive fire expected from the target area.

About DRDO

1. It is an agency of the Ministry of Defence works in the military's research and development sector. It is headquartered in New Delhi, India.

2. It seeks to empower India with cutting-edge defence technologies and achieve self-reliance in critical defence technologies and systems.

3. It was formed in 1958 from the amalgamation of the then already functioning,

a) Technical Development Establishment (TDEs) of the Indian Army

b) Directorate of Technical Development & Production (DTDP) with the Defence Science Organisation (DSO)

Linear Regression- Details

Linear Regression: Linear regression is a statistical regression method which is used for predictive analysis. It is one of the very simple and easy algorithms which works on regression and shows the relationship between the continuous variables. It is used for solving the regression problem in machine learning. Linear regression shows the linear relationship between the independent variable (X-axis) and the dependent variable (Y-axis), hence called linear regression. If there is only one input variable (x), then such linear regression is called  simple linear regression . And if there is more than one input variable, then such linear regression is called  multiple linear regression . The relationship between variables in the linear regression model can be explained using the below image. Here we are predicting the salary of an employee on the basis of  the year of experience . Below is the mathematical equation for Linear regression: Y= aX+b   Here,...

The DNA Technology (Regulation) Bill

Recently, the DNA Technology (Regulation) Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha to regulate the use of DNA technology for establishing the identity of a person. What are the provisions of the bill? 1. Establishment of National and Regional DNA Data Bank. 2. Every data bank would have indices such as the crime scene index, suspects’ or undertrials’ index, offenders’ index, missing persons’ index and unknown deceased persons’ index. 3. Establishment of DNA Regulatory Board which accredits labs analysing DNA samples. 4. Written consent by individuals is mandatory before collection of their DNA samples and creating a DNA profile of an individual. 5. However, consent is not required for offences with punishment for more than seven years in jail or death. Deletion of DNA profile from Data banks: 1. DNA profiles of the suspect may be removed on the filing of a police report or court order. 2. DNA profiles of undertrials may be removed based on a court orde...
