Protection of minors 1. There have been several instances of police clashing with and detaining protesters in the Anti-CAA protests. 2. In several cases, those detained were minors under 18 years. Detention of minors 1. Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 has specific procedures and rules in relation to children found to be in conflict with the law. 2. As soon as a child alleged to be in conflict with law is apprehended by the police, the child is to be placed under the charge of the special juvenile police unit or the designated child welfare police officer. 3. That officer should produce the child before the Juvenile Justice Board within a period of 24 hours excluding the time necessary for the journey from the place where the child was picked up. 4. DRDO

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out two successful tests of the latest variant of the BrahMos missile- from the land platform and the other from the air. About the missile 1. It is a cruise missile that can be guided towards a pre-determined land or sea-based target. 2. BrahMos is developed through a collaboration between India and Russia. It is named after the rivers Brahmaputra and Moskva. 3. This is classified as a supersonic cruise missile. It means it has the capability to attain speeds 2.8 times that of sound (Mach 2.8). 4. Minister of Health and Family welfare recently launched various initiatives to highlight the importance of nutrient-rich food and healthy practices. Eat Right Mela 1. It is an outreach activity for citizens to nudge them towards eating right. 2. It is organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). 3. New Ground for Divorce

1. Supreme Court has used extraordinary powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to grant the divorce in a case of ‘irretrievable breakdown of marriage’. 2. Currently, Hindu marriage law does not include ‘irretrievable breakdown of marriage’ as a ground for divorce. Extraordinary powers 1. Article 142 (1) states that the Supreme Court in the exercise of its jurisdiction may pass necessary order for doing complete justice in any pending matter. 2. Such passed order would be enforceable throughout the territory of India having the effect of parliamentary law until provision on that matter is made. 3. The article entrusts ultimate power in the Supreme Court for ensuring ‘complete justice’. This power is usually used in cases involving human rights and environmental protection. Ground for divorce 1. The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 lays down the law for divorce which applies to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Sikhs. 2. NPR in India

1. The National Population Register (NPR) was approved by the Union Cabinet. 2. But NPR is being opposed as it is seen as the first step towards the National Register of Citizens (NRC). What are NPR and NRC? NPR 1. National Population Register (NPR) is a register of usual residents of the country, except Assam state as NRC was completed. 2. A usual resident is one who has been residing in a local area for at least the last six months or intends to stay in a particular location for the next six months. 3. NPR contains information collected at the local, subdistrict, district, state and national level under provisions of, a) Citizenship Act, 1955 b) Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003. 4.
