DATABASE MANAGMENT SYSTEM

A databaseis a collection of logically related data. Data means known facts, which are meaningful and can be recorded. For example, names, telephone numbers, and addresses. You can record this data in an indexed address book or on a hard disk, by using software such as Microsoft Access or Microsoft Excel. Using a database for storing and accessing data provides lots of benefits over the traditional approach of storing data in the flat text files. Database Managementis the task of maintaining databases so that the information is easily available. The software required to perform the task of database management is called a DBMS. DBMSs are designed to maintain large volumes of data. Management of data involves:

 qDefining structures for data storage.
qProviding methods for data manipulation, such as adding, editing, and deleting data.
qProviding data security against unauthorized access.
